About Sonny Acres
Rooted in Family, Grown with Love
Welcome to Sonny Acres, our little piece of country life created from a lifelong love of animals, family, and the simple joys of farm life.
For me, Sonny Acres has never been about just owning a farm. It’s about creating a home where animals are loved, cared for, and truly part of the family. Horses have always held a special place in my heart, and over the years, that love has grown to include all of the animals that now make Sonny Acres what it is.
Life here revolves around them. From the horses in the barn to the donkeys, goats, dogs, chickens, and the rest of our ever-growing farm family, there’s rarely a quiet—or boring—day at Sonny Acres. Each animal has its own personality, its own story, and its own special place here.
What started as a dream of having a place for my family and animals has slowly become something even more meaningful. Sonny Acres is where I can enjoy the life I love—caring for animals, spending time outdoors, working around the barn and property, and watching the farm continue to grow and change.
It may not always be picture-perfect. There’s mud, hay everywhere, early mornings, plenty of work, and usually an animal getting into something it shouldn’t—but that’s exactly what makes it home.
And behind the name Sonny Acres is a story that is especially close to my heart. This farm carries the name of my Sonny boy, whose love—and whose loss—became part of the heart behind everything I am building here.
Sonny Acres is a place built with love, filled with animals, and always growing one dream at a time.
Welcome to Sonny Acres — where animals are family and there’s always room for one more.
With Love,
Stephanie
The Heart Behind Our Name
Meet Sonny
There are some animals who come into your life and become so deeply woven into your heart that losing them changes you forever.
Sonny was that for me.
Sonny was born June 9, 2019, and for five short years, I had the privilege of being his mom. Calling him my dog never felt like enough. He was my baby, my shadow, my comfort, and one of the greatest loves of my life.
On December 1, 2024, I had to say goodbye to him.
Even writing those words still hurts.
In all my years of loving animals and having to say goodbye to them, losing Sonny was different. His life was cut painfully short. Watching him become so sick so quickly and knowing that I couldn’t fix it broke my heart in a way I still can’t fully put into words.
When I learned there was nothing more that could be done without prolonging his suffering, I had to make the most heartbreaking decision I have ever made. But there was one thing I knew with absolute certainty: I couldn’t let my boy leave this world in a hospital, away from the home and family he loved.
I promised Sonny I would bring him home one last time.
And I did.
I laid beside him, held him close, kissed him, rubbed his swollen legs, and poured out every bit of love I had for him. For those final precious moments, I stayed right by his side until he took his last breath.
The grief that followed was unlike anything I had ever experienced. There is a particular kind of heartbreak that comes from having so much love for someone who is no longer physically there to receive it. Sonny left an emptiness behind that could never simply be filled.
And somewhere within that heartbreak, Sonny Acres found its name.
I couldn’t change what happened. I couldn’t give Sonny the years I thought we still had ahead of us. And more than anything, I would rather have him here beside me than have any memorial in the world.
But I could make sure his name continued to be spoken.
So I gave his name to something I love.
Sonny Acres Farms is named after my Sonny boy.
His face became our logo. His name became our name. And as this little farm continues to grow, a piece of Sonny grows right along with it.
Every animal loved here, every morning spent in the barn, every egg collected, every homemade treat baked for our farm stand, every person who pulls into our driveway, every child who smiles at one of our animals, and every new memory our family makes happens in a place that carries his name.
What began from tremendous heartbreak has become a way for me to keep a piece of Sonny with me while creating something beautiful for my family, our animals, and everyone who visits us.
So as Sonny Acres grows, his legacy grows with it.
I will keep saying his name.
I will keep telling his story.
And I will keep building something beautiful in his memory.
Because Sonny Acres isn’t simply the name of our farm.
It’s my love letter to the dog who broke my heart when he left and changed my life while he was here.
